Swagelok Leak Detection at Alberta Facilities

Unreliable metal-to-metal seals, improperly installed tube fittings, and poor tubing selection and preparation can cause leaks.

We can help you find and resolve fluid leaks. Hundreds of Alberta facilities have realized millions of dollars in savings from this service. Even if only compressed air is leaking, stopping leaks cuts kilowatt hours (KWh) consumed to run compressors. And if helium, argon, hydrogen, or another gas is leaking, savings from leak mitigation are much higher.

We are glad to show you in person the savings we can find -- with no pressure or obligation.

Detail-Rich Reports and Expert Advice

Images with dollar costs

Standard follow-up from an on-site leak detection survey includes a detailed report. Reports include location details, type of gas, distance, leak size (LPM), severity, leak cost (annualized), energy (Kh), and more. Each leak is documented in photos with the Swagelok Field Advisor's observations and notes on root cause.

Example

In the example shown here, we found compressed air leaking at a regulator. By addressing a leaking diaphragm in the regulator, the customer will save $4,642 each year. Elsewhere we found a leak on an air line hose. By resolving that issue, the customer will save $2,503 annually.

Track net savings

In total, we found $37,722 per year worth of leaks on this visit. Repairs require allocating some man-hours and purchasing some parts. The information they need to net substantial savings is now in their hands.

Example

Only compressed air—a seemingly free resource—is leaking in the examples shown, not bottled gasses. Still, running air compressors more than necessary wastes energy. Technicians will likely do more maintenance as a result, which adds labour costs. And unnecessary wear and tear on compressors — high-value assets which may run $150,000+ a piece — carries risk.

Field Advisors deliver insight

We discuss the findings with you and deliver a report packed with detail, empowering you to address the root cause of leaks. Sometimes we can even share observations or tips on things that are outside the scope of a leak detection survey.

Examples

  • If we learned that rotating equipment keeps acting up, we may touch on common issues with mechanical seals
  • If we suspect a problem with analytical instrumentation, we may touch on common issues with sampling systems
  • If the survey turned up incorrectly installed components, we may suggest team training to reduce such errors

Even Compressed Air Leaks Are Costly

Lower energy consumption and reduce wear on compressors

Even if only compressed air is leaking, stopping leaks cuts kilowatt hours (KWh) consumed to run air compressors. If helium, argon, hydrogen, or another gas is leaking, savings from leak mitigation are exponentially higher. "In 99 out of 100 cases, if we get a chance to look, we find leaks," explains our Field Advisory Services lead James Dickie, reflecting on 20+ years working with Swagelok customers. "We show the dollar cost of each leak per year, and what the cause is. A fix might take their technician a couple of hours. That's why this service typically pays for itself many many times over."
